Information on hosting a CHC book discussion.

The Connecticut Humanities Council's book discussion programs for children and adults offer high quality, "off the shelf" packages of books and materials along with the services of a skilled discussion leader.  They're perfect for libraries, community centers, after school programs, senior centers and many other community settings.

For Adult Readers

Literature for a Lifetime offers libraries scholar-led, high quality book discussion programs for adult readers.  The CHC covers up to 75% of the cost of a program facilitator and provides up to 30 copies of books and related marketing materials.  Hosting organizations may choose from a catalog of over 48 theme-based discussion series.  Programs are available by application only.

Organizations may also borrow books and discussion materials to conduct programs independently for a small fee.  Please see the catalog for details.

For Children and Families

Book Voyagers programs are thematic discussions of age-appropriate stories, books and poems led by professional storytellers.  The program features two formats: the adult/child format encourages families to read and discuss books together.  The child-only format encourages children to think critically about the larger themes in literature and to discuss ideas and opinions in a group environment.  Book Voyagers programs are offered by application only.  The CHC covers the majority of costs and provides books, marketing materials and the services of a discussion leader.
